FREE DIMENSION MODELING ARCHITECTURE™ (FDMA)
FDMA functions as an interactive, curve based, deformable, geometric modeler. Patented algorithms in FDMA make it possible to simply and elegantly create precise, organic objects or shapes with surfaces that can bounded by any number of curves using just a few easy-to-use and innovative tools.
FDMA works as a fully customizable and generally extendable technology framework. Every aspect of the modeling system, including tools for manipulating geometry, is component-based. Therefore, the system may be specified and purpose-built to accommodate any design domain or methodology. In this way, FDMA can be expanded from a base viewer to a total modeling environment. Component tools include:
- History Management tools for branched history management and replay of modeling operations,
- Constraint and Construction tools for mixing dimensionality in the design process,
- Symmetry tools for designing with symmetry, and
- Inspection Rendering tools for verifying visual continuity within surfaces and across feature lines. The Inspection Rendering tools include tools for isophote, moldability and other types of curvature display.
FreeDimension™ is a conceptual modeler, primarily for generating shapes. It is not designed to handle all modeling operations such as photorealistic rendering, analyses, NC, etc. What it can do is output various polygon files and a B-spline approximation for use with other design tools. In this sense it plays well with other modelers, while focusing on its strengths for concept design and styling.
